No one struggles with the cussedness of things as meaningfully as the acrobat, clown and director Martin Zimmermann. Yet the words «struggle» and «things» are not exactly appropriate. His props are not just decorative objects but real stage partners with a surprising and often treacherous life of their own. They represent a world full of vicissitudes: yawning chasms, cul-de-sacs and trapdoors. His is a world of upside down and inside out — a mirror image of reality. In short, a world in which it is hard to be oneself. In his solo «Hallo», Martin Zimmermann plays the ancient game of illusion and reality with absolute precision, poetic charm and artistic verve.
